For a similar blade pattern in a smaller size and fancier steel, check out the Snody snakecharmer. Not quite as “stabby” but surprisingly handy and comfortable for such a minimal design. The odd pea green neck sheath also worked better than I expected.
I hate to see the way some of these deals work out for formerly MassDrop . This piece is on sale now at Knife Center for $115.16 , but that gets you free delivery, your still probably saving a few bucks but it just never seems to line up here.
To be fair, the internet's "no sales tax" days are over. Since the Supreme Court ruled in favor of allowing states to collect sales tax on all e-commerce (June 2018, South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc. [overturning Quill Corp. v. North Dakota], states have quickly joined in on the sales tax collecting. It is only a matter of time before all 50 states will be sticking their hands in our pockets everytime we make a purchase online.
NarqTrue enough. I was just mentioning it because that is one of the benefits Drop had over the other players.
Even Aliexpress is collecting sales tax now. CountyComm and Botach are still not collecting though.
Great knife I got one last drop. I edc it with a Kershaw launch 4 for smaller tasks. I cut a lot of cardboard at work and this thing will do three layers like it ain’t there. The heat treat on this 1095 is awesome. For those griping about no blackout edition, micarta dyes very easily. Go to the store and get some RIT. Be done in 10 min. I’m not in love with the sheath. I like the idea but in scout carry it’s too bulgy and flops a bit. Planning on making a leather sheath for it someday. For now I front pocket carry. Since I stand all day it doesn’t bother me. If you’re on the fence go for it, you won’t be bummed.
I have the Blackout edition, great knife. That said, I really don’t like snap straps and this is a poor implementation of them (too loose). Yellow Hawk Custom Kydex has a vid on his FB page where Mr Wilson talks about straps, the risks of using and how to properly fit them. Depending on the day you may catch me with this or my JX4 Bush Bat in YHC kydex sheath, just depends on what is going on and what I am wearing.
The CUT for me with large slender hands is perfectly comfortable in any grip and slices really well. I do think the tip looks a bit delicate so I wouldn’t do any prying and would avoid extreme puncturing duty if possible. It holds an edge well and comes back to sharp with a good stroping provided it isn’t completely dull.
Really love this knife.
Spada01This version (brown micarta) is currently offered at SMKW for $99.99 (https://www.smkw.com/tops-cut40-combat-utility-tool-cut40).
The blackout version is also offered at the same price on SMKW (https://www.smkw.com/tops-utility-tool-blackout).
BladeHQ offers the knives at a slight markup ($109).
I want to support massdrop, but I don't understand why this listing is just as expensive as buying it myself from another vendor.
Will a discount appear after enough people join the drop?
reinischNope. Been a LONG time since they gave of up on the tiered sale system
And more recently, seems like they've given up on the discounted sales most days too 🙄
Gotta wade through the standard average retail prices (but, still, long wait times) to find the one decent discount here and there nowadays
