Former salesman Lewis Edson Waterman wanted to make a more reliable fountain pen—he founded his namesake company in 1884 after losing a big sale with client because of a pen that leaked. More than 130 years later, Waterman continues to make dependable writing instruments with inventive features and French-inspired elegance. Among them is the Carène Black Sea: a fountain pen that mimics the streamlined symmetry of the world’s finest yachts. Its high-gloss black lacquer body is complemented by your choice of chrome or gold-plated trim, and its snap-on cap opens to reveal an 18-karat-gold nib. Assembled and tested by hand, like all of Waterman’s pens, this Carène can use standard ink cartridges or bottled ink with the included converter.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of trim color (chrome or gold) and nib size (extra fine, fine, medium, broad, stub broad, fine oblique, or broad oblique).
